Today I said goodbye to a friend. Truthfully I have not lost that many friends. I have been very fortunate in that respect but this was a sudden loss. It happened way too fast. None of us were prepared. Marilyn left behind people who love her and a life lived well.

It makes me wonder, are we all living our lives well? I had a long talk with my son yesterday about how we all take ourselves so seriously sometimes. I had a rough childhood (or lack thereof) so taking things seriously came very natural to me. A few years ago I woke up to the fact that I needed to lighten up. If I continued that way I was going to miss out on life. I feel like I had already missed enough, it was time to live.

Not everything is a life or death matter. Not everything needs to be a big deal. There are plenty of big deals, big decisions and things to take seriously in life. Let’s keep those in their boxes and deal with them as they come, but the rest of the time – live life!! Smile. Laugh. Act silly. Take silly pictures. Use the good dishes. Have ice cream for supper. Lay on a blanket and look at the stars. Take an impromptu road trip. Go for a drive in the country. Just. Live. Life.

As I listened to Marilyn’s brother speak of her today, the word that jumped out to me was “fearless”.  She took on challenges and met them head on. Right up until the end. Rest in peace Marilyn. We miss you. We love you. We know you are in a better place than we are, but we will see you soon!

Love,

Dianna
